Name:
Location: Ventura, California, United States

I retired from the US Navy in Sept 1993 after 32 years of active and reserve service. While serving on ships and working on surface to air missile and gun systems, I was on the Cuban Missile Blockade and served in Vietnam. My last active duty was in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm. I was part of the Military Sealift Command in Saudi Arabia. After retirement, I got involved with the U.S. Volunteers soon after 9-11-2001. I was trained and certified through Riverside National Cemetery to be an Honor Guard prior to establishing a Memorial Honors Detail in Ventura County California, in January, 2004.

Welcome Aboard
To All, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know how rewarding it is to honor the service of my fellow U. S. Military men and women who have passed on and reported in for the grand roll call by the Supreme Commander. I thank each member of my Memorial Honors Detail for their donations of time and money in buying a uniform and qualifying to perform the military funeral procedures. I know that it is emotionally draining to do one funeral and more so to do as many as nine funerals a day, as some of our people have done. The crack of the rifle volleys rips though your heart and then your throat tightens up as you force your face to remain motionless while the last notes of "TAPS" fade in the air. A great sense of gratitude overcomes you as you think of the service that this veteran did for each of us and our country. There are so many veterans passing away each day. Our active duty personnel are rather busy at the moment, so it is appropriate that us older veterans put on our uniforms once again and assist the nation in paying final military honors to those who have served their country and now passed on. These veterans deserve no less than our best effort. The 1st Memorial Honors Detail in Ventura, CA, practices from 1 - 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon of each month at the Ivy Lawn Memorial Park (cemetery) just off freeway 101 at the Victoria Rd. (south) exit. The public is invited to observe our practices in 2008, which are: Jan. 20, Feb. 10, Mar. 16, Apr. 13, May 4, Jun. 22, Jul. 22, Aug. 10, Sep 14, Oct. 5, and Nov. 9. The dates for 2009 are: Jan 26, Feb 8, Mar 15, Apr 19, May 17, Jun 14, Jul 12, Sep 20, Oct 11, and Nov 1.
